World Air Cargo Awards 2026 Finalist

Glasgow Prestwick Airport has been shortlisted as a finalist in the prestigious World Air Cargo Awards 2026, competing in the Airport of the Year – Regional Cargo Hub category.

The Cargo Airport of the Year Award recognises airports that demonstrate exceptional performance in facilitating and supporting air cargo operations. It celebrates those that provide first-class infrastructure, seamless logistics, and outstanding service, making a significant contribution to the efficiency and growth of the global air cargo industry.

Being named a finalist is a very welcomed endorsement of Prestwick’s role as one of the UK’s leading regional cargo hubs. The airport’s 24/7 operations, uncongested airspace, rapid turnaround capability, and dedicated cargo handling facilities continue to attract major freight operators and logistics partners from across the world.

The last 12 months have been transformational for the Airport’s cargo operation. Significantly, in the year to date, we have seen a 372% increase in cargo tonnage handled at Prestwick. Additionally we have:

  • Welcomed two additional scheduled cargo airline partners.
  • Added another 15 cargo flights a week to our schedule.
  • Processed 25million+ parcels through our e-commerce terminal.
  • Made significant investments in cool chain infrastructure.
  • Increased our team to support our new routes to/from China.
  • Established the Airport as a key export hub for Scottish Salmon.
  • Secured the confidence of the world’s largest salmon producer Mowi.

The award finalist recognition also reflects the commitment and expertise of the teams on the ground at Prestwick, who work in close partnership with airlines, handlers, freight forwarders, and logistics providers to deliver reliable, efficient, and flexible cargo solutions every day.

Airport CEO Ian Forgie said: “We are absolutely delighted to be recognised as a finalist in the World Air Cargo Awards. This nomination is testament to the hard work of our staff and partners and highlights the critical role regional cargo hubs like Prestwick play in supporting global supply chains.”

Voting for the awards is now open, and the airport is encouraging partners, customers, and the wider aviation and logistics community to lend their support.
