Are you passionate about aviation safety and operational excellence? We’re looking for a proactive and safety-driven Airfield Operations Officer to play a vital role in the safe, efficient, and compliant day-to-day operation of our airfield.

This is a hands-on operational role at the heart of airport activity, ideal for someone who thrives in a dynamic environment and takes pride in maintaining the highest standards.

Glasgow Prestwick Airport is a fast-paced, 24/7 aviation services provider delivering passenger travel, air cargo, training flights, and world-class MRO (maintenance, repair, and overhaul) services. Home to the longest commercial runway north of Manchester, we play a critical role in global connectivity and Scotland’s economy, with over 450 employees and supporting more than 4,000 jobs across the region.

Key Duties and Responsibilities
  • Airfield Safety & Inspections
    • Conduct regular airfield patrols in line with the Aerodrome Manual, ensuring runways, taxiways, and aprons are free from Foreign Object Debris and in good repair.
    • Report faults relating to airfield ground lighting, airfield surfaces and equipment.
    • Operate airfield equipment including the Airfield Sweeper and FODBoss.
    • Ensure all activities are accurately recorded in daily logbooks with effective shift handovers.

    Wildlife & Environmental Control

    • Monitor bird activity and implement the Wildlife Hazard Control Plan.
    • Carry out bird scaring and culling where required, maintaining accurate records.
    • Report bird strikes and near misses in line with CAA CAP requirements.
    • Record wildlife activity using the Scarecrow system.
    • Ability to obtain firearm and shotgun licences

    Emergency Response & Incident Management

    • Take a leading role at the Rendezvous Point (RVP) during emergencies, guiding external emergency services safely to incident sites.
    • Act as a first responder to fuel and oil spills until Airport Fire Service arrival.
    • Support incident investigations and ensure accurate reporting via AORN and incident reporting systems.

    Operational Oversight

    • Manage and oversee airfield works, ensuring safe closure, contractor briefings, inspections, and reopening procedures.
    • Liaise closely with Air Traffic Control to maintain operational safety and situational awareness.
    • Police apron operations, ensuring compliance with safety, driving, and equipment standards.

    Manage aircraft parking and prepare daily stand allocations.

    • Provide marshalling and “Follow Me” services as required.
    • Conduct airfield perimeter and fence-line patrols.
    • Low Visibility & Winter Operations lead
    • Play a key role in low visibility procedures, including safeguarding and deployment of barriers and signage.

    Lead winter operations, including snow clearance and de-icing activities.

    • Direct runway snow clearance echelons and liaise with ATC and the Snow Coordinator.
    • Approve runway condition for operational use and manage closures and reopenings.

    Training, Mentoring & Compliance

    • Mentor and support new team members on shift.
    • Monitor individual training needs using Redkite and ensure that your training remains current.
    • Support performance management processes, including safety observations and caution slips.
Safety, Security & Compliance
  • Maintain full compliance with the Aerodrome Manual, Health & Safety policies, and Data Protection legislation.
  • Maintain Level 1 security competence and adhere to all security standards.
  • Promote a strong safety culture and support investigations where required.
Skills and Experience
  • A safety-focused professional with strong situational awareness.
  • Confident communicator able to liaise with Air Traffic Control, emergency services, contractors, and colleagues.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, operational environment, including shift work and adverse weather.
  • Experience in airfield operations or a regulated operational environment is highly desirable.

  • Comply with UK Right to Work checks and provide associated relevant documentation at interview.

  • Provide GPA with a complete five-year referencing history inclusive of all employment, self-employment, and education. Any gap period of 28 days or more must be covered by a personal reference to which you must also provide contact details.
  • Upon request, provide a Criminal Record Check Certificate (Basic Disclosure) from Disclosure Scotland. This must not display any disqualifying convictions as detailed on the Civil Aviation Authority website.
  • Where applicable, undertake a Counter Terrorist Check (CTC) and understand that deployment to any security related activities is conditional upon the satisfactory result of such a check.
  • In accordance with regulations, this role requires you to meet DVLA Group 2 medical standards so that you can drive on our airfield (including on runways / taxiways).
