Glasgow Prestwick Airport (GPA) has an exciting opportunity for a Technical Services Engineer, with excellent fault-finding, planning and decision-making skills to join our small, dedicated team.

The ideal candidate will have relevant experience within a similar role with professional certifications required e.g., Microsoft MCP, MCSA or CCNA etc. The role is office based, 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday. Additionally, this role requires the individual to join an on-call roster. Salary is dependent on experience.

Job Scope:

To ensure the efficient operation and development of all hosted IT / electronic systems and associated infrastructure at Glasgow Prestwick Airport in addition to assisting colleagues in other sections of the Facilities department as required.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide 1st and 2nd line support to all users across the site
  • Be familiar with and conduct maintenance and fault finding on the following systems/infrastructure:
  • – Airport PBX
  • – Mobile telephony
  • – Internal network infrastructure (switches, routers, hubs, cabling)
  • – Flight Information System
  • – Check-in & airline ticketing systems
  • – Access Control System
  • – CCTV System
  • – Photocopiers/Network Printing
  • – PA System
  • – Emergency Comms. & Facilities
  • – Customs Clearance Systems
  • – MT Fuel Logging System
  • – Car Parking Systems
  • – Financial Systems
  • – MS Azure/365
  • – IT Security Systems
  • – MDM
  • Provide support to the IT Manager relating to longer term projects, e.g.:
  • – Development and Maintenance of Bespoke Systems
  • – Server and Systems Maintenance / Replacement
  • – System Installation, Testing, Evaluation and Commissioning
  • – Disaster Recovery Contingency Planning and Validation
  • – Infrastructure Deployment Planning and Implementation
  • – Development and Maintenance of System Documentation
  • – Any other projects / systems work which may from time to time be requested by management
  • Assist in the overall function of the IT department and work within any of the other departmental sections (with appropriate supervision) at the request of departmental management.
  • Ensure all systems are comprehensively documented and the information properly archived.
  • Maintain documentary records of all work in support of regulatory requirements examined by external authorities.
  • Follow procedures regarding change control.
  • Follow working procedures to ensure the provision of a consistently high-quality level of systems implementation and support.
  • Maintain backup systems for all stored information with consideration to sustainability.
  • Keep up to date with developments in the industry and make recommendations to management for employing such developments where appropriate.
  • Play a key role in the future development, planning and implementation of technical systems and infrastructure across the estate.
  • Provide on-call support (currently 1 week in 5) only applies outside of probationary period.
  • Responsible for ownership of reported issues through to conclusion or appropriate escalation.
  • Provide to support to external contractors if / when required.
  • Assist in the provision of technical services / support to a major emergency, incident, or special event.

Qualifications Required:

The candidate should have relevant experience within a similar role with professional certifications required. For example, Microsoft MCP, MCSA or CCNA etc.

*In accordance with regulations, this role requires you to meet DVLA Group 2 medical standards so that you can drive on our airfield (including on runways / taxiways). Therefore, please only apply for this role if you can meet the following standards:

  • Vision – applicants must have a visual acuity (using corrective lenses if necessary) of at least 6/7.5 in the better eye and 6/60 in the other. Visual fields will be checked by confrontation method and if there is any doubt then an optician report is required.
  • Colour perception – applicants are required to distinguish the colours red, green, and white using the Ishihara test plates (24) – 15 plates, presented in a random order, which must be identified without error or via an approved advanced colour vision test. The use of colour correcting lenses are not acceptable.
  • Hearing – applicants must have the ability to hear a forced whisper in either ear at a distance of 2 metres. In case of doubt an audiometric examination will be necessary.
  • General Health – applicants must disclose any medical condition, which might affect the ability to operate / drive safely.
