We have an exciting opportunity for a Health and Safety Officer to join our Health and Safety team at Glasgow Prestwick Airport in a fast-paced, 24/7 operational environment.  Suitable candidates will have strong communication and problem-solving skills.  

Owned by the Scottish Government, Glasgow Prestwick Airport directly employs circa 300 people and supports over 4,000 jobs across the aerospace cluster. Situated in the heart of Scotland’s aerospace industry we offer a diverse range of in-house aviation services providing vital connections to the rest of the world.

This role is permanent, reporting directly to the Health and Safety Manager, 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 0800 – 1600 hours.

This is an ideal first role for ambitious graduates looking to start their career in Health and Safety.

 

Essential:

  • Strong and confident communicator with good stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to prioritise tasks and manage time effectively.
  • Possess a proactive, positive attitude towards improving health & safety standards and developing a positive health and safety culture.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
  • Excellent numeracy, analytical and problem-solving skills.

Desirable:

  • Hold a recognised NEBOSH Certificate.
  • Experience in developing and delivering health and safety training.
  • Experience in accident/incident investigation and reporting.
  • Experienced risk assessor.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide competent support, advice and guidance on health and safety matters to all levels of the business.
  • Conduct site safety audits and inspections.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain safety policies and procedures in compliance with the regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain current databases for accident/incidents, safety inspections and workplace Inspections.
  • Investigate and record workplace accidents, health related complaints and cases of ill health and write reports when required.
  • Liaise with all relevant external agencies, including the Health and Safety Executive and other enforcing authorities when required.
  • Develop and deliver in-house training with managers and employees on all relevant aspects of health and safety.
  • Develop and review risk assessments to ensure safe operations.
  • Attend and support health and safety committee meetings.
  • Keep up to date with new legislation and any developments that affect GPA.
  • Attend health and safety training when deemed appropriate.
