We’re offering an exciting opportunity for a Mechanic to join our dynamic Motor Transport team at Glasgow Prestwick Airport, where you’ll work in a fast-paced, 24/7 operational setting at the core of Scotland’s thriving aerospace cluster.

Key Responsibilities:
  • To inspect, service and repair all Airport vehicles, plant, and ground support equipment (GSE) at prescribed intervals in accordance with manufacturers and company guidelines using all documentation provided.
  • Prepare and present road-going vehicles for MOT testing.
  • To carry out any repairs and refit replacement parts as required.
  • Attend breakdowns of all vehicles, plant and equipment.
  • Road test vehicles.
  • Trace and rectify faults occurring in pneumatic & hydraulic systems.
  • Carry out electrical repairs of a minor nature.
  • Carry out welding work as and when required.
  • Carry out bodywork repairs of a minor nature.
  • Ensure all associated paperwork is completed on time recording all details.
  • Participate in an on-call roster.
  • Fuel vehicles, plant and equipment when required.
  • Ensure all waste material is disposed of in the correct manner.
  • Assist with weekly fire drills and workshop checks.
  • Ensure the Transport workshop is always safe and secure.
  • Adhere to all Health and Safety legislation and wear all supplied PPE as required.
  • To provide an integral response to any emergency incidents, and to assist appropriately based on the situation arising.
  • To carry out any other reasonable duties as required, including assistance during winter operations, diversions, special events, etc.
Key Skills and Abilities:

Essential:

  • Must be a time served mechanic at a minimum of SVQ level 3.
  • Experience of servicing & maintaining vehicles, plant & equipment to a high standard.
  • Experience of preparing & presenting vehicles for MOT testing.
  • Current UK driving licence.
  • Ability to meet DVLA Group 2 medical standards to allow Airfield driving.

Desirable:

  • Knowledge & experience of maintaining:
  • GSE within an Airport environment.
  • Airport Fire Appliances.
  • Winter equipment.
  • Forklift trucks.
  • Grass cutting equipment.

Experience of working on:

  • Vehicle electrical systems.
  • Hydraulic systems.
  • Pneumatic systems.
  • Experience of minor welding & fabrication works.
  • IOSH working safely (or equivalent).
  • Experience of LOLER inspections.
  • Experience of working at height.
  • MEWP licences 3a & 3b.
  • Previous radio communications experience.
