Glasgow Prestwick Airport’s September Passenger Numbers Up 7%
A total of 121,772 passengers passed through Glasgow Prestwick during September, 7% up on the same month last year.
Cargo was especially strong in the month, with a total of 1105 tonnes being shipped, 43% up on September 2012.
It brings to 742,413 the number of people who have used the airport since the summer schedule started at the end of March - which is 7% up on the corresponding period last year.
September passenger numbers were boosted by busy flights to Mediterranean hotspots Malaga, Faro and Alicante while Canary Islands favourites Tenerife and Gran Canaria continued to be popular early autumn destinations.
Chief Commercial Officer Graeme Sweenie said: “We're delighted to see passenger numbers continuing to rise at Prestwick.
“Ryanair’s low fares here continue to be attractive to Scots, with flights to Dublin, Milan, Barcelona and Warsaw available from just £14.99 one way.
“I believe ultra cheap flights, low-cost parking and being the only airport in Scotland with our own railway station are the key factors in our continuing success this summer.”
