Prestwick Pipes Welcome Passengers on Burns Birthday
The skirl of the pipes welcomed passengers flying into Glasgow Prestwick from Dublin and Derry today (January 25).
On the two hundred and fifty-third anniversary of Robert Burns’ birth, Ryanair and the airport teamed up with VisitScotland to give passengers a real taste of Scotland on their short journey across to Ayrshire, the home of our national bard.
Pre-flight, adult passengers were handed songbooks and complimentary goodie bags containing Walker’s shortbread, a miniature Johnnie Walker bottle of whisky, Mackie’s haggis-flavoured crisps and gifts from the Edinburgh Woollen Mill to enjoy onboard the aircraft.
And just to give passengers an extra tartan treat, a piper piped them off the aircraft on arrival at Prestwick.
Ryanair’s Maria Macken said: “Ryanair is delighted to welcome passengers into Scotland on this special day. There is no better place to celebrate Burns night than in the birthplace of the poet himself. “
Malcolm Roughead, Chief Executive of VisitScotland, said: “People from all over the world enjoy celebrating the work of Scotland’s Bard on Burns Night. Rabbie Burns is an iconic symbol of our country and we hope our in-flight Burns celebrations were great fun for all on board.”
