Prestwick Airport's first charter flight of the summer to Turkey took off today (June 8), with nearly two hundred Scots taking advantage of the airport’s low-cost package holidays to the sun.

And first to check-in for the busy Dalaman flight were the Fortune family from Mossblown, near Ayr - Mum Ainsley, three-year-old Jayden and Gran Shona.

Shona said: “We’re regular travellers to Turkey but this is the first time we’ve used Prestwick. It’s great – it’s only ten minutes from home.”

Scots love our inexpensive Turkish programme,” said Prestwick’s Passenger Development Manager Paula Horne.

"Turkey has become one of the most popular holiday destinations for Scots, with an 11% increase in the number of tourists this year.

“That’s because Turkey is outside the eurozone so your holiday spending money goes much further. Our inclusive packages start at just £289 per person staying at the Seren Sari Hotel in Marmaris for seven nights on a bed and breakfast basis, which is fantastic value for money in June.”

Direct flights from Prestwick to Dalaman run every Tuesday from 8 June to 13 July, with an extra Monday flight operating on Monday 28 July for 2 weeks. Top resorts include Marmaris, Olu Deniz, Hisaronu, Ovacik, Icmeler, Dalyan and Turunc.

Paula added: “For families, young couples or older people, Turkey is a real delight from Glasgow Prestwick this summer.”

Karen Vyse, Managing Director of Prestwick’s Turkish partner Holidays 4U, said: “We are delighted with the popularity of Prestwick Airport, the travel agents we work with and, of course, their customers. We hope that for 2011 we will be able to grow our programme with more flights - perhaps to a different area of Turkey to give customers an even wider choice of holidays."
